- 1Check in: open Venue Spark inside the venue and scan the code on the door display, a poster or the bar.
- 2Answer tonight's quick sliders (about 30 seconds) and set your minimum match.
- 3Browse the radar. Faces are people who match you; send a spark to anyone you like. You get 1 free spark each night at each venue by default, and spark packs add more.
- 4When a spark is mutual, choose how to meet: come find me, I'll find them, or chat first.
- 5Follow the arrow, spot each other, and confirm you've met. Keep in touch only if you both want to.

Getting started
- 1Download Venue Spark and tap Get started.
- 2Enter your email address. We email you a 6-digit code; type it in and you're signed in. There's no password, and the code works for 10 minutes.
- 3Scan your ID and take a short video selfie. We keep only your verified age and a verified badge; ID images are deleted right after the check.
- 4Add your first name, at least one photo, a line about you and up to 8 interests. Pick the modes you might use: Dating, Friends, Network.
- 5Allow location while using the app (it confirms you're at the venue), Nearby Interaction (for the arrow) and notifications. The camera scans codes and powers the optional camera view.
- 1Venue Spark is on iPhone first, with Android coming next.
- 2Precise arrow and distance: iPhone 11 or later on iOS 17 or later, except iPhone SE and iPhone 16e.
- 3Phones without Ultra Wideband still check in, match and chat. To find each other, use the hint your match left you and Flash both screens (tap Flash or shake your phone).
- 4Both people need the app open on screen while finding each other. Finding pauses if either app goes to the background or the screen locks.
Your night
- 1Open the app inside the venue. It shows the venues near you.
- 2Scan the code on the door display, a poster, a table tent or a bar sticker. Your phone's camera app works too: it opens Venue Spark for you.
- 3Choose what you're here for tonight: Dating, Friends or Network. Some venues only allow some modes.
- 4Choose whether to show on the radar now. You can browse invisibly and switch anytime.
- 5Tap Next to answer tonight's sliders.
- 1Drag each slider toward the side that fits you tonight. The reading above it updates as you go, like "Leaning serious".
- 2Skip anything you don't want to answer. Skipped questions don't count either way.
- 3Tap Must match on any dealbreaker. If your answers are far apart on that question, you won't see each other. The first question starts as Must match; tap it to turn it off.
- 4Switch modes at the top to answer for Dating, Friends or Network.
- 1Drag Minimum match. It starts at 70%. The count shows how many people here are at or above it, and the chart shows where everyone's scores fall.
- 2Pick up to 5 of your interests for tonight to boost matches with people who like the same things.
- 3Your Show me and age range come from your profile. Edit them anytime.
- 4Change your minimum later from the chip next to the count on the radar.
- 1For each question you both answered, we score how close your sliders are: 100 minus the distance between them.
- 2Some questions match opposites. In Network, "Looking for help" scores highest with "Offering help".
- 3We average those scores. The first question in each mode counts double. This makes up to 90 points.
- 4Shared interests add up to 10 points: 2 for each shared interest, up to 5.
- 5Must match: if either of you marked a question Must match and your answers are more than 30 points apart, you won't see each other at all.
- 6You see someone only if they're at or above your minimum, and they see you only if you're at or above theirs.
- 1Faces with an accent ring are mutual sparks. Other faces match your preferences.
- 2Dots are people who don't match. They stay anonymous.
- 3Positions on the radar are shuffled on purpose. They never show where anyone is standing.
- 4Tap a face to see their profile and send a spark.
- 5Tap the eye icon to go invisible: you can browse without appearing to anyone.
- 1Open someone's profile and tap Spark. By default you get 1 free spark each night at each venue; after that, sparks come from your balance (spark packs and ticket bonuses).
- 2They only find out if they spark you too. Then it's mutual and you both see It's a spark.
- 3Changed your mind? Open the Sparks tab and tap Undo spark on anyone who hasn't sparked you back. You get the spark back.
- 4Each venue has a nightly maximum (often 5) that counts free and bought sparks together.
- 1Come find me: you stay put and tell them where you are.
- 2I'll find them: you get the arrow; they stay put.
- 3Chat first: say hi before anyone moves.
- 4Add a hint to help them spot you, like "Black denim jacket, red scarf".
- 5They get a request and choose whether to accept. Requests expire after 5 minutes, and saying no is private.
- 1Hold your phone upright at chest height, screen facing you.
- 2Turn slowly until the arrow appears. It points to your match; the number is the distance in meters.
- 3Walk the way the arrow points. Haptic taps speed up as you get closer.
- 4Under 1 meter, you're both asked to confirm you've met.
- 5The session lasts up to 15 minutes, only works inside the venue, and either of you can tap Stop anytime.
- 1On the finding screen, switch from Arrow to Camera.
- 2Look around slowly. A pin with their name and distance floats over them.
- 3Nothing is recorded. The camera only places the pin.
- 1While you're finding someone, shake your phone. Both screens light up for a few seconds so you can spot each other across the room.
- 2It does the same as the Flash button. Shake again once the flash stops to send another.
- 3Hold your phone up after shaking so they can see it light up.
- 4Dancing and it keeps going off? Turn it off in the app under Me › Shake to flash. The Flash button still works.
- 1If direction isn't available, you still see the distance. Turn slowly and walk the way that makes the number drop.
- 2Tap Flash my screen, or shake your phone. Both screens light up in the same color so you can spot each other.
- 3Use the hint they left you, like where they're standing or what they're wearing.
- 1Open the Sparks tab and tap a mutual spark to chat.
- 2Use a quick reply or write your own. Tap Find each other anytime to start finding.
- 3Tap the microphone to record a voice message, up to 2 minutes. Tap Send when you're done, or the trash button to cancel.
- 4Tap the photo button to send a photo, any time after you both spark. Location data is removed from photos before they're sent.
- 5Photos from your match stay blurred until you tap them, so nothing catches you by surprise.
- 6Something not okay? Press and hold a photo or voice message and tap Report.
- 7Chats close when the venue closes, unless you both tap Keep in touch.
- 1The next day, the Sparks tab shows how your night went.
- 2People you met and both kept in touch with stay in your list.
- 3Mutual sparks you didn't meet become missed connections. You have 24 hours to say hi; then they disappear.
- 4Last night's answers, photo and location signals are already deleted.
- 1Go to Me → Appearance.
- 2Pick Velvet, Neon, Ember, Tide or Daylight. The screen previews it instantly.
- 3Turn on Use venue themes to let partner venues restyle the app while you're checked in.
Tickets & sparks
- 1Open the event's page, or scan the code at a paid event: the app shows the price and a Get a ticket button.
- 2Pay by card in the app, or on the event's web page after signing in with the same email you use in the app.
- 3Your ticket comes with 3 free sparks by default, added to your spark balance.
- 4At the event, scan the code at the door as usual. Your ticket lets you in.
- 5Need a refund? Tickets are refundable on request until the event starts. Contact us.
- 1By default you get 1 free spark each night at each venue. They're used first.
- 2Want more? Buy a spark pack in the app or on this website at /sparks. Bought sparks stay in your balance until you use them.
- 3A paid event ticket adds 3 free sparks to your balance by default.
- 4Each venue sets a nightly maximum that counts free and bought sparks together.
- 5Undo a spark before it's mutual and you get it back, free or bought.
- 6Bought a pack in the iPhone app? Refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Sparks have no cash value.
Spark network
- 1Join from the app: when you set up Network mode, or later in Me → Network profile, describe your business, who you'd like to meet and your ZIP code, then choose to join the Spark network. It stays off until you do.
- 2Other members see what you enter (business name, title, profession, about, ideal client, services, and any website, email or phone you add) plus your profile photos. Never tonight's photo.
- 3Search by profession and keyword in your ZIP code, the area around it, your state or everywhere. A featured member leads each ZIP code's results for their profession, and members who joined in the last 14 days are welcomed in New in the network.
- 4Message a member from their profile. It's sent by email with your email address as the reply-to, so they can answer you directly. You can send 10 messages a day by default.
- 5Leave anytime in Me → Network profile: turn off the listing or delete your profile. You disappear from search right away.
- 1One member per profession per ZIP code per day is featured at the top of that ZIP's results, with a Featured badge.
- 2Featured days are bought on this website: sign in with the email you use in the app and open Featured days. You need to be listed in the Spark network, and bids are for your own profession.
- 3Pick a ZIP code (yours, or any 5-digit ZIP) and tick the days you want. Open days show the top bid, or Open from $5 when nobody has bid yet. Each new bid must beat the top bid by at least $1.
- 4Tap Place bids and pay by card. You pay when you bid. If someone outbids you, your bid is refunded automatically and we email you, so you can bid again.
- 5Bidding on a day closes 12 hours before it starts, and the top bid then wins the day. Days run midnight to midnight, Eastern Time, and you can bid up to 60 days ahead.
Safety & privacy
- 1Tap the shield in the top corner of any screen.
- 2Choose what's going on. In an emergency, tap Call emergency services; staff are alerted too.
- 3Choose where you are, from the venue's own list of areas. Some venues also let you add a rough area, like front half.
- 4Choose whether to share tonight's photo so staff can spot you. You can also quietly end a finding session and block someone.
- 5Tap Send to staff. You'll see when someone's on it and who's coming. Tap Hide to make the app look normal while help is on the way, or I'm okay now to cancel.
- 1In a chat, tap ⋯ → Report privately, or press and hold a photo or voice message and tap Report. After the night, use Report privately on your summary.
- 2Choose a reason and add details if you want.
- 3Choose whether to attach your chat, block them, and tell the venue's staff.
- 4A person on our Trust & Safety team reviews every report. Urgent ones, like feeling unsafe or someone who seems underage, go first.
- 5Outcomes range from a warning to a ban from every venue. We email you when there's an update.
- 1Other guests see your profile only if you match their preferences, and only while you're both checked in.
- 2Distance and direction are shared only with one person, during a finding session you both agreed to.
- 3Venues see totals only, like how many people checked in. Never names or who matched whom, and any number under 10 is hidden.
- 4Staff see only what you choose to share when you ask for help.
- 1When you check out: tonight's answers, tonight's photo, and every location and distance signal.
- 2Right after verification: your ID images.
- 3When the venue closes: chats, unless you both kept in touch.
- 4A week after a chat closes: its photos and voice messages, unless you both kept in touch. After an unmatch, within a day.
- 5After 24 hours: missed connections you didn't act on.
- 6When you delete your account (Me → Settings): your profile, photos, matches and messages.
Troubleshooting
- 1Check the spelling of your email address, then look in spam or promotions.
- 2Codes expire after 10 minutes. Request a new one and use the newest email.
- 3Requested a lot of codes? Wait a few minutes before trying again.
- 1Hold the phone 20–30 cm from the code, in some light.
- 2Make sure location is allowed while using the app. You need to be at the venue.
- 3Door codes change every 30 seconds. If the app says the code expired, scan the screen again.
- 4The venue may be closed or paused, you may be under its minimum age, or it may not allow the mode you picked.
- 5You need a verified account to check in. Finish the ID check in the app first.
- 1Both people need the app open on screen.
- 2Hold the phone upright and sweep slowly left and right.
- 3Crowds block the signal. Step into a clearer spot, switch to the camera view, or flash both screens (shake your phone).
- 4Some phones can't show direction at all; you'll see the distance instead.
- 1Rooms stay hidden until a minimum number of people are checked in.
- 2Your minimum match may be high. Lower it from the chip on the radar.
- 3You only see people who picked the same mode tonight, and Must match questions hide people whose answers are far from yours.
- 1Check the display is plugged in and on Wi-Fi.
- 2Reload the door display page in its browser. It reconnects on its own.
- 3Still offline? Remove it in the portal and pair it again with a new code.
Questions people ask
Can anyone see where I am?
No. There's never a map. Only one person you both agreed to sees direction and distance, during a finding session inside the venue.
Can someone follow me after I leave?
No. Finding ends when either of you leaves the venue, and your location signals are deleted when you check out.
Can the venue see who I matched with?
No. Venues only see totals, and any number under 10 is hidden.
Why only 1 free spark a night?
So each spark means something. By default everyone gets 1 free spark each night at each venue, and you can add more with a spark pack, up to the venue's nightly maximum. Undo a spark before it's mutual and you get it back.
Who can see my Spark network profile?
Nobody, until you choose to join the Spark network in the app. Then other signed-in members can find your business details and profile photos (never tonight's photo). Leave anytime in Me → Network profile.
Do sparks cost money?
Your free sparks don't. Spark packs do, in the app or at /sparks on this website, and a paid event ticket comes with 3 free sparks by default. Sparks have no cash value.
Can I use it from home?
You can sign up and edit your profile at home. Meeting people only happens while you're checked in at a venue or event.
What if my match leaves?
The finding session ends right away. If you both kept in touch, you can still chat.
Do venue staff need the app?
No. Staff use the staff page in their phone's browser, and door displays run in any tablet or TV browser.
Still stuck?
At a venue right now?
Tap the shield in the app. Staff on shift come to you. In danger, call emergency services.
