Terms of use

The rules for meeting people with Venue Spark, for guests, venues, event organizers and sponsors. They’re short on purpose: be kind, take no for an answer, and help keep the room safe.

1. These terms

By creating an account or using Venue Spark, including the app, this website, the venue portal, the sponsor dashboard, the staff page and door displays, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Venue Spark.

2. Who can use it

  • You must be 18 or older. Many venues are 21+, and you can’t check in at a venue or event below its minimum age.
  • You must pass our age verification (an ID scan and video selfie) before you can check in.
  • One account per person. Use your real first name and photos of you.
  • You can’t use Venue Spark if we’ve banned you, or if the law where you live doesn’t allow it.

3. Your account

You sign in with a code sent to your email, so keep your email account secure. You’re responsible for what happens on your account. You can sign out of every device or delete your account in the app at any time.

4. How to behave

Venue Spark only works if people feel safe saying yes, and safe saying no. When you use it:

  • Take no for an answer. An unanswered spark, a declined request or a stopped finding session means no. Don’t follow, approach or contact someone who hasn’t said yes.
  • No harassment. No threats, insults, hate, sexual comments or explicit images nobody asked for.
  • No pressure. Don’t pressure anyone to drink, to leave with you or to share contact details.
  • Be yourself. No fake profiles, impersonation, or photos that aren’t you.
  • No selling. No advertising, soliciting, promoting or recruiting for paid services.
  • Respect privacy. Don’t record or photograph people without their consent, or share anyone’s profile, messages or information outside the app.
  • Play fair. Don’t share or reuse check-in codes from outside a venue, fake your location, scrape the service, or try to get around a block, removal or ban.

5. Safety

  • Use the shield in the app to reach the venue’s staff on shift. In an emergency, call your local emergency number first. Venue Spark is not an emergency service.
  • We verify ages, but we don’t run background checks. Meet in the venue, keep your drink with you, and trust your instincts.
  • Finding each other depends on your phones and the room. The arrow and distance can be wrong or unavailable, so use them as a guide.

6. Reporting and enforcement

  • You can report anyone privately, during or after the night. They’re never told who reported them.
  • A person on our Trust & Safety team reviews every report. Depending on what happened, we may dismiss it, warn the person, suspend their account or ban them.
  • Bans apply across every venue and event on Venue Spark. A banned account can’t be used again.
  • Venue staff can remove someone from their room. That person is checked out and can’t check back in at that venue until the removal ends. We review every removal, and repeated removals or reports can lead to a ban.
  • We may also act on serious conduct we learn about in other ways, and we cooperate with law enforcement when the law requires it.

If you think we got a decision wrong, contact us at the Help center and a different person will take another look.

7. Venues and event organizers

If you open a room for your venue or event, you also agree to the following:

  • Be real. Give accurate business details and keep them current. Only verified venues can go live, and we can pause or remove a room whose details turn out to be wrong.
  • Keep codes in the venue. Display check-in codes only inside your venue or at your event, and don’t share them online.
  • Staff the room. Keep at least one trained person on shift while your room is live, respond to help alerts promptly, and keep your zones and on-call manager up to date.
  • Pause when you need to. Pause the room if you can’t respond to alerts, or if something serious is happening.
  • Respect guest privacy. Use help request details only to help that guest. Don’t try to identify guests from analytics, photos or alerts, or keep shared photos.
  • Follow the law. Venue Spark’s age check doesn’t replace your own ID checks, licensing or alcohol service rules.
  • Honor your perks. If you offer a perk, give it to guests who qualify.
  • Manage your team. Invite only people who work for you, and remove access when they leave.

8. Payments and refunds

Some parts of Venue Spark cost money: event tickets, sponsorships, spark packs and featured days in the Spark network. Prices are shown before you pay.

  • How you pay. Card payments on the web and in the app are processed by Stripe. Spark packs bought in the iPhone app are App Store purchases, processed by Apple under Apple’s terms.
  • Event tickets are refundable on request until the event starts. After it starts, refunds are at our discretion. A refunded ticket no longer gets you in, and the free sparks that came with it are taken back if you haven’t used them.
  • Sponsorships are refundable on request until the event starts. After it starts, refunds are at our discretion. Once refunded, your logo and perk stop showing.
  • Spark packs bought in the iPhone app are refunded by Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com). For packs bought on the web, contact us. Sparks from a refunded pack are taken back if you haven’t used them.
  • Featured days in the Spark network are paid when you bid. If you’re outbid, or your bid arrives after bidding on that day has closed, it’s refunded in full automatically. Once bidding on a day closes, the top bid wins that day; refunds after that are at our discretion.
  • Sparks have no cash value. They can’t be exchanged for money, transferred or sold, and they’re only for sending sparks in Venue Spark.

To ask for a refund, contact us at the Help center. [To complete with counsel: taxes, currency, chargebacks, organizer payout terms, unused-spark expiry, and consumer refund rights that apply where you live.]

9. Sponsors

If you sponsor events on Venue Spark, you also agree to the following:

  • Use your own brand. Only upload logos and names you have the right to use.
  • Honor your perk. Make sure venue staff can give guests what your perk promises, and keep your redeem code up to date.
  • Keep it lawful. Perks must follow the law where the event happens, including rules on alcohol promotion and age limits.
  • Counts, not people. You see totals only. Don’t try to identify guests from them.
  • We may pause a sponsor account or remove a logo or perk that breaks these terms.

10. Your content

You own the photos and words you add. You give us permission to store and show them as needed to run Venue Spark, for example showing your profile to guests who match you. We may remove content that breaks these terms.

11. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put others at risk. Some records may be kept after an account closes, as described in our privacy policy.

13. Changes and contact

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before the change takes effect. Questions? Contact us at the Help center.
