Privacy policy

Venue Spark is built so you can meet people in the same room without anyone being able to find you unless you both say yes. This policy explains what we collect to make that work, who can see it, and when it’s deleted.

1. The short version

  • Nobody can see you until you check in at a venue, and only people who match you see your profile.
  • There is never a map. Direction and distance are shared with one person, during a finding session you both agreed to, inside the venue.
  • When you check out, tonight’s answers, your photo for tonight and every location signal are deleted.
  • Venues see totals only, and any number under 10 is hidden. Staff see only what you choose to share when you ask for help.
  • Your ID images are deleted right after age verification. You can delete your account in the app at any time.
  • Card payments are handled by Stripe and App Store purchases by Apple. We never see your card details. Sponsors see counts only, never who you are.
  • The Spark network, our directory of members’ businesses, is opt-in. Nothing about your business is listed unless you choose to join.

2. What we collect

Your account

  • Email address. You sign in with a 6-digit code we email you. There’s no password.
  • Verified age. You verify your age once with an ID scan and a short video selfie. We keep your date of birth (to work out your age) and a verified badge. The ID images and selfie are deleted right after the check.

Your profile

  • First name, photos (up to 6), a prompt answer (like “Ask me about…”), up to 8 interests and the modes you use.
  • Optional gender, plus your Show me and age range filters, which decide who you see in Dating.
  • Your appearance settings, like your color theme.

Tonight, while you’re checked in

  • Tonight’s answers: your mode, slider answers, Must match choices, tonight’s interests, minimum match, and any hint you add (like what you’re wearing).
  • Tonight’s photo, if you add one.
  • Location, only while checked in. When you check in, and about once a minute while the app is open, your phone sends its location so we can confirm you’re inside the venue and check you out when you leave. We compare it with the venue’s location and don’t keep it. We never collect location when you aren’t checked in.
  • Finding sessions: to point your phones at each other, the two phones swap short-lived Ultra Wideband tokens through our servers. Distance and direction are worked out on the phones and are never sent to us.
  • Sparks, matches and messages: who you sparked, mutual matches, meet requests, whether you met, and chat messages, including photos and voice messages you send.
  • Perks you were shown or redeemed, including sponsor perks: each guest at a sponsored event gets their own one-time QR, and we record when it’s redeemed.

Safety

  • Help requests: the reason, the zone or rough area, any details you add, and tonight’s photo and look only if you choose to share them.
  • Reports and blocks: who you reported or blocked, the reason and details, and your chat with them if you choose to attach it.
  • Venue removals: if venue staff remove someone from their room, we record it so that person can’t check back in there until the removal ends.

Technical

  • A sign-in token on your device, records of the emails we send you and whether they were delivered, and logs of actions taken by venue staff and our team.

3. How we use it

  • To run Venue Spark: check you in, work out match percentages between guests at the same venue in the same mode, and help two people who both said yes find each other.
  • To keep people safe: route help requests to staff on shift, review reports, and enforce warnings, suspensions and bans.
  • To send you sign-in codes and service emails, like an update on a report you made.
  • To give venues totals about their room (never about people).

4. What other guests see

  • Your profile, match percentage and shared interests, only if you match their preferences and they match yours, and only while you’re both checked in at the same venue. Everyone else sees an anonymous dot.
  • Positions on the radar are shuffled. They never show where anyone is standing.
  • Your hint and the distance and direction to you, only to the one person you agreed to meet, during that finding session.
  • A spark is only revealed if it’s mutual. Declining a meet request is private.
  • Once you both spark, you can send each other photos and voice messages. They go only to the person you’re chatting with, photos you receive stay blurred until you tap them, and the app removes location data from photos before sending them.
  • You can go invisible at any time and still browse.

5. What venues and staff see

  • Venues and event organizers see totals only, like check-ins, mutual sparks, meetings and perk use. Any number under 10 is hidden, and a room stays hidden until its minimum crowd is reached. They never see names, profiles, answers, match scores or who matched whom.
  • Staff on shift see a help request’s reason, zone, rough area and details, and tonight’s photo and look only if you shared them. They never see your name, profile, matches or location.
  • Door displays show how many people are checked in only once the room has reached its minimum crowd and the number is at least 10.

Our Trust & Safety team sees reports with people identified by member codes, plus anything the reporter chose to attach.

6. The Spark network

The Spark network is an opt-in directory of members’ businesses inside the app, for people who use Network mode. You can fill in a network profile without joining; it’s only listed if you choose to join.

  • What we keep: the business details you enter (business name, your title and profession, about, who you’d like to meet, services, and any website, contact email or phone you add) and your ZIP code, city and state.
  • Who sees it: once you join, other people signed in to Venue Spark can find your listing by profession, keyword and place. They see the details above and your profile photos, never tonight’s photo. Your ZIP code is used to place you in search; we never show your location.
  • If you don’t join: your profile isn’t searchable. While you’re checked in somewhere in Network mode, people who can see you on the radar at that venue also see your title and business, as part of your profile for the night.
  • Messages: when a member messages you, we email it to you. When you message a member, we tell you first that we send it by email with your email address as the reply-to, so they can write back to you directly. We keep messages so you can see them in the app.
  • Featured spots: if you bid on featured days, we keep your bids (days, ZIP codes, amounts and whether you won or were refunded) with the payment records described below. Other members only see that you’re featured on a day you won.
  • Leaving: turn off the listing or delete your network profile in the app (Me → Network profile). You disappear from search right away.

7. Payments

  • Cards are processed by Stripe. Event tickets, sponsorships and spark packs bought on the web are paid through Stripe Checkout. Your card number and security code go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.
  • In-app purchases are processed by Apple. Spark packs bought in the iPhone app are paid through the App Store with your Apple ID. Apple tells us which pack was bought and gives us a transaction id so we can add your sparks.
  • What we store: what you bought, the amount and currency, the status (for example paid or refunded), the dates, and Stripe’s or Apple’s reference ids for the payment. We also keep your spark balance and a history of sparks added and used, and send you a receipt by email.
  • Sponsors: if you sponsor events, we store your brand name, website, contact email and logo, the events you sponsored and the perk you set.
  • Who sees it: sponsors see counts only, like how many guests checked in and how many redeemed their perk, and any number under 10 is hidden. They never see who checked in, bought a ticket or redeemed a perk. Staff who scan a sponsor QR see the perk, never who you are. Venues and organizers see ticket totals, not buyers.

[To confirm with counsel: how long payment records are kept for tax and accounting, and whether Stripe and Apple are named as processors or independent controllers.]

8. Email

We send sign-in codes and service emails through Resend, an email delivery provider. Resend processes your email address and the message to deliver it, and tells us whether it was delivered, bounced or marked as spam. Help alert emails to venue staff never include a guest’s identity. We don’t send marketing email without asking first.

9. When we delete things

Tonight's answers, Must match choices, interests and hintWhen you check out: by tapping Check out, when you leave the venue, when the venue closes or pauses, or if you're removed
Tonight's photoWhen you check out
LocationNever stored. Each reading is used to check you're inside the venue, then discarded
Finding-session tokensWhen the session ends, and always at check-out
ID images and verification selfieRight after the age check
ChatsThey close when the venue closes, unless you both tap Keep in touch. Unmatching closes a chat for both of you
Photos and voice messages in chats7 days after the chat closes, unless you both kept in touch. Within a day of an unmatch. A report keeps only a note that a photo or voice message was sent
Missed connectionsAfter 24 hours
Link between a help request and your accountAfter 90 days. The venue's incident log keeps the request without anyone's identity
Your account, profile and photosWhen you delete your account
Payment records (amounts, status, provider ids)Kept after you delete your account, without your profile, for as long as tax and accounting rules require [to confirm with counsel]

We may keep limited records for longer when we need them for safety or the law, for example a ban (so a banned person can’t simply sign up again) or a report under review. [To confirm with counsel: exact retention periods for closed chats, reports, email logs and audit logs.]

10. Your choices

  • Go invisible or check out at any time while you’re at a venue.
  • Edit or delete your profile, photos and interests in the app.
  • Choose what you share when you ask for help or make a report.
  • Block anyone. They won’t see you, and you won’t see them.
  • Sign out everywhere from the app’s settings.
  • Delete your account in the app (Me → Settings → Delete account). This deletes your profile, photos, check-ins, matches and messages.
  • To ask for a copy of your data or a correction, contact us at the Help center.

11. Adults only

Venue Spark is for people 18 and over, and many venues are 21+. We verify everyone’s age before they can check in. If you think someone is underage, report them in the app and we’ll act quickly.

12. Security

Connections are encrypted, sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes and can only be tried a few times, and sensitive settings are stored encrypted. Photos are only served to signed-in users. No system is perfect, so we limit what we collect and delete what we don’t need.

13. Changes and contact

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect. Questions? Contact us at the Help center. [To complete with counsel: the legal entity, its address, your rights under local law (for example GDPR or CCPA), and how to complain to a regulator.]
